DEATH OF MRS. BEAN 1892 |
---|
We regret to have to record the death, on the 4th instant, of Mrs. Bean, relict of the late Rev. Willoughby Bean, chaplain for many years of the Yarra Bend and Kew Lunatic Asylums. Mr. Bean, while still a laymen in Sydney, in 1838, married Harriett, daughter of Colonel William Battley, Commandant at Cape Town. After the marriage Mr. and Mrs. Bean went home, and Mr. Bean studied for the ministry at St. David's College, Lampeter.
They afterwards came out to Melbourne with Bishop and Mrs. Perry in the "Stag," and Mr. Bean was ordained at Bishop Perry's first ordination in this colony. Mrs. Bean was most helpful to her husband in his different cures, acting as his organist at Williamstown, Port Albert, and Inverleigh, and not unfrequently at the Yarra Bend. Her work as a clergyman's wife was beyond praise, and won for her the admiration and respect of all who knew her. She leaves three children - Willoughby and Henry Bean, and Mrs. T. R. Wilson.
